Consumer patriotism gains popularity

In the wake of the economic recession, there has been a renewed emphasis on buying American-made products to support the U.S. economy. Last year, Diane Sawyer pledged to buy only U.S. made products, citing that if every American spent an extra $3.33 on U.S.-made goods, it would create almost 10,000 new jobs in the country. She urged viewers to join her pledge, and the campaign is one of the many sources bringing attention to a growing trend of consumer patriotism. With that, consumers are embracing the ‘Buy American’ trend because it overlaps with several other trends and touches on numerous values.

Job outsourcing is still an issue on Americans’ mind, and with the jobs market struggling to regain ground, this issue is an even bigger problem. When asked why more Apple products aren’t made in the United States, Apple responded by saying that ‘Made in the USA’ is no longer a viable option for most Apple products. Consumers realize that buying local to supports the local economy and keeps jobs in the country for themselves and their neighbors. Continue reading

DGWB plays the greatest first-two innings, ever

Steady defense, timely hitting and dazzling play by an intern helped pace DGWB during a very impressive first two innings Monday night in an OC Advertising  Co-Ed Softball League game at Bill Barber Park in Irvine.

DGWB pitcher Doug Koegeboehn gathered the team after the first two innings to applaud it for the great achievement of playing a team as good as the opponent was, so closely during the first two innings.

“We felt really proud about that effort,” said DGWB skipper Jessica Guillen. “Those first two innings are basically what softball is all about. It was a majestic display.” Continue reading

Sleep will be this decade’s big health movement

Living a more healthy and balanced life is nothing new. In the ‘90s healthy-minded Americans became obsessed with fitness. Jogging and exercise became a national pastime, and joining a gym was almost a family necessity. In ‘00s it was all about diet when we saw a national movement to sidestep artificial and processed foods, avoid fatty fast food fare, and focus on following more natural and wholesome diets. The #HungerGames dominates the box office fueled by a strong social campaign

Friday, March 23, was the theatrical release of The Hunger Games. In August 2011, Lionsgate released a teaser trailer during the MTV Video Music Awards with the hashtag #WhatsMyDistrict. The hashtag on the teaser trailer led curious twitter users to TheCapitol.pn , a hidden website that over time began to reveal its contents. The website allows users to log in using their Twitter or Facebook accounts, which then assigns every person to a ‘district.’ Continue reading

No cubicle is safe from the madness

There’s nothing like March Madness—not only is it a legitimate opportunity to engage in inner-office gambling, but it’s also a fantastic geography quiz.

Creighton, Xavier, Butler, Drake.  Davidson, Lehigh, Murray State. If not for March, you’d never of heard of ’em. What the heck is an Iona and where the fudge is St. Bonaventure? The Belmont U’s of the world are suddenly household names and something called Gonzaga gets to dominate the headlines again. Gonzaga’s in Washington, by the way (the rest, we’re not so sure). Have you heard of ZMOT?

A few months ago our Digital Director, Chris Diede, introduced the agency to Google’s newly coined term, ZMOT, which stands for the Zero Moment of Truth. In a nutshell, these are the moments before a purchase where consumers will engage with a brand by researching online, reading reviews or asking their online network. It’s the catalyst that starts the shopping and learning process of the item at hand, which in turn helps the consumer feel smarter about their buying decisions. The study was done with Shopper Science using 5,000 +shoppers across 12 categories with the goal of finding out where the influence takes place to move a shopper from undecided to decided, leading them to this idea of ZMOT.
